The page is a tiling of the hyperbolic plane by heptagons, three to a corner, drawn in the Poincaré disk. The plane has more room the farther out you go, so the cells shrink toward the edge but never run out.
The center cell is the introduction. The seven around it are six groups of projects and a plain list. Each group's projects sit in the cells just outside it, so clicking a group brings it to the middle with its projects around it. Click a project to open it.
Every other cell takes the color of the lit cell it is fewest steps from, and the light and dark bands count those steps. The colored ring around the disk shows which group reaches each point of the edge from where you are standing, so it changes as you move.
The thin moving lines are pathfinders walking the edges of the tiling. At each corner a pathfinder can go two ways and takes the one whose cells are closer to its own color. That rule comes from Michael Bromley's Chromata.
The drawings in the project cells are small mathematical studies themed on each project, run by this page. They are not the projects' code or data; the screenshots, descriptions, and links are the projects themselves. Each drawing keeps its own state, so leaving a cell does not reset it, and the pointer changes the conditions a drawing runs under instead of dragging its parts around. The Long Night cell places real bright stars for the current time, as seen from Los Angeles.
The Pause button at the top stops every drawing. In an open cell, Explore drawing lets the arrow keys or a drag stand in for the pointer. If your device asks for reduced motion, the drawings stay still until you point at one. Clicking an open cell, or scrolling into it, opens the project: inside this page when its site allows that, and on its own site when it does not.
